Nicosia Municipal Theatre
Nicosia International Festival
The Nicosia Municipal Theatre hosts the panhellenic premiere of “Flock” by Costas Mannouris on Monday, 29 May 2023 (20:30) at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre.
A short initial version of the text was first presented as part of the 24 Hour Plays Cyprus in the summer of 2020 at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre. Six playwrights were invited to write six new fifteen-minute plays on the theme of confinement, which were staged with the contribution of six directors and 18 actors. All writing and rehearsals were completed within 24 hours. The event is now considered of historical significance, as it marked the first time during the pandemic that theatre was performed indoors with a physical audience.
Mannouris later developed the original text into a full-length play, which returns and is now presented by the theatre group ROI, in the venue where it was conceived.
Plot
An unprecedentedly large swarm of birds performs wondrous formations above a major city. Three individuals ignore strict government instructions and each steps out onto their balcony to witness the extraordinary sight.
Their balconies happen to be adjacent. It is the first time these three inhabitants encounter one another within the vast apartment building that houses - and confines - them. Will they manage to overcome fear and embrace the freedom of flight?
