OPEN CALL FOR ARTISTS FOR THE 6TH EDITION OF THE NICOSIA INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL

The Nicosia International Festival invites professional artists (physical persons) of Cypriot origin or nationality and/or organisations (legal entities) operating legally in Cyprus to submit proposals for inclusion in the Nicosia International Festival 2025, which will take place from September to December. The Festival is co-organised by the Nicosia Municipality and Nicosia For Art.

Artists are invited to submit proposals for theatre, contemporary dance, and music performances to be held at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre (main stage, rehearsal space, the open-air space at the side and at the front of the theatre) and the Nicosia Municipal Garden, as well as proposals for the Festival's Parallel Program. Our Parallel Programme includes additional exhibitions, seminars, workshops, lectures, guided tours and educational programmes for children and young people.

FESTIVAL PHILOSOPHY

The proposals submitted should be in line with the philosophy of the Festival, which in turn is aligned with the long-term strategy of the Nicosia Municipality for culture and which includes the following objectives:

1. To support and promote young professional creators, to showcase Cyprus' talent of all ages and to keep our cultural heritage alive.
2.To propose a wide range of cultural and artistic expression with the aim of bringing citizens into contact with internationally reputable artists and cultural organisations.
3.To propose cultural activities that promote acceptance and inclusion regardless of nationality, age, gender, colour, religion, sexual orientation, etc.
4.To honour freedom in all its forms: individual and national freedom, freedom of thought and freedom of speech.

TERMS & CONDITIONS:
  1. The open call is addressed to professional artists (natural persons) of Cypriot origin or nationality and/or organizations (legal entities) operating legally in Cyprus.
  2. Submitted proposals must be presented for the first time in the Nicosia district.
  3. The proposer’s remuneration is set at 75% of the net proceeds from the performances (after the deduction of VAT, entertainment tax, and ticketing platform fees), with a minimum payment of €100 per contributor/artist participating in the performance.
  4. The Festival’s co-organizers are not obligated to accept or approve any proposal if deemed unsuitable.
  5. The proposer is solely responsible for fulfilling all obligations related to intellectual and other rights for public performance/presentation. Any costs associated with securing these rights are to be covered entirely by the proposer.
  6. The Festival’s co-organizers reserve the right to secure sponsors and media partners. The proposer is not permitted to do so without prior written approval from the Festival’s Artistic Director.
  7. The co-organizers of the Festival will provide technical support for each performance (including the technical equipment of the Nicosia Municipal Theatre), cover all promotional costs, and assume the cost of the venue.
  8. Any required permits or approvals from Governmental, Local, or other Authorities regarding the work permits of the artists are the sole responsibility—both administratively and financially—of the proposer.
  9. If requested by the co-organizers or any public authority, the proposer must, at their own expense, prepare and submit a Health & Safety Plan for the event to the Festival.
  10. The proposer is responsible for the smooth execution of the event, including the arrival and departure of all members of the artistic team.
  11. All individuals involved in the event (actors, artists, dancers, technicians, etc.) are required to fully comply with all provisions of the Safety and Health at Work Laws from 1996 to 2011 during the performance, as well as during rehearsals and venue setup.
  12. In the event of cancellation or failure to carry out any or all of the scheduled performances due to fault of the proposer or any participant, after the written approval of the proposal by the co-organizers, the proposer will forfeit any payment.
Interested parties can read the terms of the open call and instructions for submitting proposals on the website: https://www.nicosiaforart.cy/el-gr/nicosia-international-festival/2025/

Proposals must be submitted electronically no later than Tuesday 17th June 2025 at 11:59 p.m., through the link https://forms.gle/JT9WCa5roESN9udNA
