The music and dance performance “Nostalgia” will be presented by Politistiko Ergastiri Ay. Omoloyiton at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre on January 17 (19:30).
Focusing on our city, multicultural Nicosia, the performance unfolds in time from the Byzantine Era to the present day. At each historical station, the viewer travels through art, music, dance, speech and movement, on a multidimensional journey that highlights the Cypriot tradition and its timeless evolution. Byzantine music and narrative songs meet the language of Leontios Machairas, the Arab Cypriot of Sanna, the Armenian, the Turkish of the Turkish Cypriots, as well as the dialects of the Cappadocians, Asia Minor and Pontic Greeks. At the same time, contemporary artistic creations are presented that carry the same spirit of “nostalgia” for the place and time.
The performance touches on issues related to the preservation and dissemination of Intangible Cultural Heritage and is directly linked to raising awareness among those facing the possibility of its loss, due to migration or displacement.
Supported by the Department of Modern Culture of the Subministry of Culture.
