Nicosia Municipal Theatre and CYTA join forces to enhance accessibility
Wed, 26 Nov. 2025
10:00
The Nicosia Municipal Theatre and Cyta have launched an innovative collaboration that strengthens accessibility for audiences attending performances at the theatre.
With the support of Cyta as Technology Sponsor, the Nicosia Municipal Theatre is now equipped with surtitling screens capable of displaying surtitles in two languages (e.g. Greek and English) simultaneously. This feature supports non-Greek-speaking audiences as well as people with hearing loss to enjoy an equally rich theatrical experience.
The surtitles provide real-time translation and adaptation of the performance’s dialogue, allowing every viewer to participate fully and without barriers.
On Sunday, December 30, 2025, at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre (4:30 PM), audiences will have the opportunity to watch the play “Crazy Antonis” using this facility. Additionally, as part of the National Theatre Live cinema screenings, “The Importance of Being Earnest” by Oscar Wilde, directed by Max Webster, will be shown on January 7, 2026, and “Dr. Strangelove” by Stanley Kubrick, co-adapted by Armando Iannucci and Sean Foley and directed by Foley, on February 5, 2026.
Cyta supports inclusive access to culture, using technology as a means of connection, communication, and understanding. With the new surtitling screens, every audience member can follow the performance and experience the magic of theatre without limitations.
Through this collaboration Nicosia for Art, the company running the theatre, and Cyta bring theatre closer to everyone, using technology as a tool for inclusion and equal access.
